Plan and preview a running route before you go
To preview a running route, plan it on a map with road-snapping, check the distance and turns, then play it back at running speed to see the timing and surroundings before you leave. Treat the playback as a preview only: it is not a workout, so never log or upload it as an activity.
Loads from YouTube (youtube-nocookie.com) only when you press play.
Step by step: Preview a running route on Android
- Draw a loopDraw the route in a planner with road-snapping on, following streets and paths, and adjust it to your target distance.
- Load it on your phoneExport it as GPX and import it, or build the route with stops directly in a route app.
- Play it at your pacePlay the route back at walking, running or cycling speed and watch the timing.
- Check the detailsLook at crossings, lit streets, paths, opening hours of parks and the turnaround point.
- Save itSave the route as a favorite or GPX file for race day.
Plan a loop that hits your distance
Use a route planner with road-snapping so the line follows real streets and paths. Start and finish at the same point for a loop, or mark a turnaround for an out-and-back. Adjust until the distance matches your plan.

Can I preview cycling routes?

Does the preview count as a run?
No, and it must never be logged or uploaded as one. A preview is for planning only.
