Last reviewed: · 2 min read · Menu names vary by brand and Android version.

Short answer

To turn off mock location, first stop the simulation in the app that's running it. Then open Settings › Developer options › Select mock location app and choose "Nothing". Toggle Location off and on, or open a map app, to get a fresh real GPS fix. Optionally turn Developer options off.

Step by step: Turn off mock location on Android

  1. Stop the simulationStop it in the app that's running it. In Golub, press Stop in the app, in the notification or in the Quick Settings tile.
  2. Choose NothingOpen Settings › Developer options › Select mock location app and choose Nothing.
  3. Refresh LocationTurn Location off and on in Quick Settings to get a fresh GPS fix.
  4. Check on a mapOpen a map app and check that the blue dot is back at your real position.
  5. Optional: turn Developer options offOpen Developer options and switch off the toggle at the top.

Why stop the app first

The mock location app keeps supplying positions while its simulation runs. If you only change the Developer options setting, some phones keep the last simulated position until an app asks for a new one. Stopping the simulation first ends it cleanly.

In Golub

Press Stop on the map screen, in the ongoing notification, or in the Quick Settings tile. Golub restores your real location as soon as the simulation stops.

Still seeing the old place?

  • Close and reopen the app that shows the wrong place: many apps cache the last fix.
  • Toggle Location off and on.
  • Open a map app outdoors or near a window for a fresh GPS fix.

Frequently asked questions

My location still shows the fake place. What now?

Some apps cache the last location. Close and reopen the app, toggle Location off and on, or step outside for a moment so GPS gets a fresh fix.

Do I need to uninstall the app?

No. Stopping the simulation and choosing Nothing is enough. The app can stay installed for the next time.

I can't find the notification to stop it.

Open the app and stop the simulation there. Some phones hide ongoing notifications in a collapsed group.

Will turning off Developer options also stop mock location?

On most phones yes, but stop the simulation and choose Nothing first so you know exactly what changed.
